Welcome message from the President

On behalf of the membership of the EMS Division of the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association I welcome you to our web site.

We enjoy a unique relationship with our brothers and sisters in the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association and are grateful for their support and leadership.

The site is maintained and updated by union members Gary Saffer and Michael Sullivan. I wish to thank them for their tremendous job in keeping up with the everchanging EMS profession. Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions, changes, or questions you may have regarding this site.

You can learn a great deal about Boston EMS, the origins of the service, and the history of the union, by visiting the various pages on this site.

To Our Members

We have, as is typical, faced many new challenges in the past several months. Some battles we won, others, we are still are fighting.

We have many new faces among the ranks, and we welcome these new union members. We encourage you to get involved early and often. A union is what it's membership makes it.

We have many challenges ahead, and a lot more work to do. Our contract is in effect until June 2002. We anticipate the start of negotiations sometime in the spring (if this isn't optimism I don't know what is). We will strive to help the other side "get it right".

We have had little movement on our legislation. Senate Bill 1391 would provide public EMS workers throughout the state with a chnage to Group 4 of the retirement system. Senate Bill 1393 would provide the same Line of Duty death benefits that our fellow Public Safety brothers and sisters are afforded. Neither bill has progressed, BUT WE WILL KEEP AT IT in our ongoning efforts to improve working conditions for our members.

We need to be ever diligent of national legislation as it affects EMS here and around the country. We do not have the luxury of assigning someone to do nothing but watch out for us, because like the rest of the EMS world who do only EMS there are not enough of us. We will continue to network with our colleagues around the country and in Canada through our affliation with N.E.E.O.N. as we look for new ideas and strategies to win some of our battles.

Be Safe, Stay Diligent, and Never Forget 9-11-01

Fraternally,

Dianne
