Bruno O n May 27, 2016, Massachusetts dedicated a memorial to post 9-11 soldiers who lost their lives defending the United States. This beautiful memorial resides in the Seaport District at Seaport Square Park, between NorthernAve and Seaport Blvd. This five-sided column sits at the head of the park, stretching high for all to see. There is peaceful waterfall in front. On top, a reflective pool which mirrors the five-sided diaphanous. Each side represents the five branches of our military whose seals lay at the base of the structure. There are four glass panels on the side with the names of those who’ve sacrificed their lives so that we may enjoy enduring freedom. I spoke with the parents of one of these “Fallen Heroes” and they were pleased with the dedication and memorial. They proudly pointed out their son’s name to me and I could feel their bittersweet sadness. Their son’s name will be displayed for many years to come, but the emptiness they’ll feel will last an eternity. I shook both their hands and told them what an honor it was to meet them, and how sorry I was for their loss. All the families of those listed on these sacred panels were invited to the event. They’re called Gold Star Families and they are all considered victims, having suffered the loss of a loved one. The government has stated they will leave no one behind, including these families who have suffered. It really was a moving experience for all.
