Page 50 • PAX CENTURION • Fall 2016 617-989-BPPA (2772) Forty-eight graduate from the Boston Police Teen Academy O n August 11, 2016 there was a graduation ceremony at the Boston Police Academy. This one was missing a few things that we have become accustomed to. There were no bagpipes, no color guard, no dress uniforms and most notably no media. We had senior command of the department, forty-eight proud city teenagers and their families. We were honored to also have the BPPA Food Truck show up and grill burgers and dogs for all who wanted. This was not a recruit graduation, as you probably already guessed but it was the seventh graduation for the Boston Police Teen Academy. This initiative was started as a way to strengthen the bridge between the BPD and teens back in two thousand and ten. Several union members worked with the teen over a six-week period. The teens participated in daily PT, drill, classes and field trips. The graduation was an enormous success. The Mayor, Police Commissioner and Superintendent-In-Chief were all in attendance. And everyone was grateful and impressed with the BPPA Food Truck operators who cooked food for over 150 guests. It was about 95 degrees and humid that night and our Union brothers were selfless in their service for the event. Cheers, guys, you are the best!!!
