For those of you who have ever worked the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston around East Fifth Street and G Street, you know exactly who I am talking about. Their doors were open to all BPD personnel who cared to take a break before, during, and after the event. There would always be a spread on the table and a warm smile to go with it. All you had to do was get by P.O. Stephen Doran’s huge dog, “Doom”! Officer Doran is married to Lee and Jack Bolstad’s daughter, Tara. Their children, John and Madison, were constantly doted upon by Lee and Jack. Having known Jack and Lee for many years, I saw firsthand how happy they were together. As a VietnamVeteran, Jack always had the respect of his co-workers. I can tell you that many people come in and out of our lives, but few leave an indelible impression; these are the ones that earn the title of true friend. Lee worked for many years at the South Boston Savings Bank on West Broadway. For those of you who did the detail, I’m sure you’ll remember her asking if you needed a coffee or anything at the store. We would always share stories and tell jokes which made the “big clock” on the wall move faster. I can’t tell you how happy she was when her daughter Tara married Stephen Doran. She felt like her daughter got as good man as she did. Semper Fi! Lee and Jack are what we call “Salt of the Earth” people. They are genuine in their kindness and friendship to the people they know. These qualities are hard to find and, for this, I will miss Lee the most. Life is fleeting sometimes. You retire and expect to spend at least several of your twilight years with your loved ones, but God has other plans. It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to Jack, Tara, Stephen, John, and Madison. May God keep Lee always close to His heart. Proud Supporters of the BPPA.
