www.bppa.org PAX CENTURION • Fall 2017 • Page 53 Boston Police Teen Academy Graduation By Police Officer Darryl Owens On August 11 th the eighth class of the Boston Police Teen Academy celebrated their graduation. This summer 60 teens from Boston neighborhoods participated in a six week summer job program. This year’s kids were from Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, Mattapan and Roxbury. They are paid through ABCD, the Boston Youth Fund and a generous grant from the Highland Street Foundation. A typical workday included PT and classroom workshops. This summer we took trips to museums, community service organizations and even an amusement park. The graduation was hosted by Superintendent Lisa Holmes and was attended by Chief William Gross and Dan Mulhern of the Mayor’s Office. For the second year in a row a few of our gracious union brothers came out and grilled for a parking lot cook-out. They worked tirelessly on a hot and humid night to be paid in smiles, hugs and selfies. To our surprise our brothers even brought the Goose which was a great delight to all. Once again, our heartfelt gratitude to the generosity and kindness of the BPPA and the mighty few grill workers that came out to serve at our celebration.
