May I humbly suggest two things that could possibly relieve some of the burden placed on the line Officers. #1: We now have Cadets, how about staffing and utilizing Call Screening? Lost cell phones, keys, wallets, prescriptions, and other lost property reports, Hit and runs, shoplifting, etc can all be handled over the phone. People won’t have to wait (sometimes quite a bit) for service, and Officers will be able to respond to higher priority calls. #2: Silver D 400!!!! I’ve been doing a lot of Day Tour OT (or playing defense against the morning watch ordering) and find cars are tied up on multiple calls for vehicles parked in violation of the permits ISSUED BY DPW and BTD. Why on God’s green earth does it fall on us? Let BTD handle the tag and tow (it IS their job). Benefits, you ask? Every Day Tour Service Unit isn’t off at the base on tows, and the City is fully compensated for the violation. Now sources at BTD tell me the stock answer there is “We don’t work for the Police Department”. True enough, but you DO work for the City and the taxpayers. To add insult to injury, Harris videoed the rape, provided play by play commentary, mixed with insults, then uploaded the lewd acts to Snapchat. She has been arrested and charged. As expected, it set off a firestorm of tweets, protests and outrage among the left. Many more pampered “activist” grid iron millionaires took a knee, citing their First Amendment Rights. Commissioner Goodell entered the fray, siding with the players. Considering Goodell refused to allow the Dallas Cowboys request to honor 5 Dallas cops (MURDERED by a Black Lives Matter supporter) with a helmet sticker, and threatened to fine players seeking to honor 9-11 victims as well as implementing rules governing end zone/sack/big play celebrations-he should have stayed out of it. Some players even took a knee during the anthem ON FOREIGN SOIL-then stood for “God Save the Queen”! Hell, even the fans at Gillette BOOED the home town Patriots and cheered in unison: “STAND UP” One notable exception; Pittsburgh Steeler’s Tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who defied his coach and SOME team mates by emerging from the player’s entrance and standing hand on heart for the anthem. Villanueva, if you didn’t know, is a former Army Ranger Captain with THREE DEPLOYMENTS to Afghanistan. He received a Bronze Star for courage under fire. He was vilified by his Coach, Mike Tomlin, among others and was forced to issue an apology. I truly cannot recall feeling more pity for anyone than this hero. Now as a Constitutional Conservative, I agree the players have a First Amendment Right with a BUT as big as a nose tackle’s backside. Yes, you can, but do it on your own time. Just a reminder, gentle readers, WE (cops) also have First Amendment protection, yet the papers are littered with stories of First Responders being disciplined or even fired for posting controversial subject matter on Social Media, including members of our own BPPA. So activist all you want NFL, NBA, MLB, but I remind you, there are consequences. H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H How ironic…the Department says you can’t work while on a prescribed dose of cough syrup with codeine, because it makes you drowsy, but sees nothing wrong with cancelling days off on a whim, or forcing guys to work 16 hours for days on end on 5-6 hours sleep. #yaordered H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H Another dilemma faced by Officers is the hours owed lists popping up at every station and unit. Officers are being held hostage for swaps or Work Ins if their hours are in the negative. OK, I get it if you owe, you owe. The problem is that the hours in many cases don’t add up to equal our shift hours and the Department can’t seem to pinpoint where these hours owed came from by date… H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H H The impotence of Police in dealing with the lawlessness displayed by the scooter punks, ATV asses, and bicycle bums makes me feel like the sign language interpreter on a radio. Slavery is a scar on our nation, a permanent one that even time will never erase, morally wrong on every level. Same goes for hate groups, like the KKK, BLM, White Supremacists, ANTIFA, Nazis, Commies, and Fascists. All are staffed by small minded cowardly individuals whose goal is to divide us, and to promote/impose their warped hatred. They should be universally viewed with contempt by all Americans.
